I mentioned that I took this week off at the last minute to have a break while I could (since I don’t know when I’ll be able to leave the new guy on his own) but it’s like I’m still there. Calls from work, voicemails, emails, texts, msn messages. Can’t anybody show any initiative? I’ve said it before, but common sense really doesn’t seem to be that common anymore. Needless to say I’m not replying.
Went to Ikea today and bought a load of crap we don’t need and can’t afford. I might build it tomorrow. I need to call the insurer again since it’s almost a year since the accident and they still haven’t done fuck all. I think the last word from them was that they were awaiting a response from the third party. How long do they give them these days?? I still need to write to the independant financial ombudsman again.
On a plus note, I think my battles with 1&1 are finally over – my server package is now cancelled, and I even got a refund on the last quarter after I complained about their lack of response to my numerous emails. That’s £100 back in my bank account, thank-you-very-much!
I’m sat listening to Tommy Emmanuel after being out with my parents to the local pub. It’s completely not my kind of night out, but they keep asking me. I saw an old friend, Allen, and spoke to him about our love for listening to and making music. He’s 67 now, and is always singing. He’s good at it too. I also saw my old schoolfriend Nichola who I’ve seen just a couple of times since I left school. That reminds me – via the gift of Facebook I’m back in touch with my old schoolfriend Antony so we need to get together, play Pro Evo and down some beers or something.
I had a text from Michelle earlier tonight telling me to get over to York and I wish I’d done that instead. Sounds like she had a top night, and I could’ve been kipping in a two storey suite! Damnit… Hey well. York’s one of my favourite places to be so maybe we’ll go some other time.
Friday night was spent at Ste’s playing Rock Band with Jodie and Gregs. It’s about time it had a release here. At least they gave us the full back catalogue to download. Was an awesome night, mostly pissing ourselves at Gregs’ “singing!” Ste lives in North Yorkshire though, so I lose half a tank of petrol if I go… the state of the price of oil now it’s an expensive do!
I’ve got the week off now. Michelle quite rightly pointed out that it’s James’ last week and since the new guy’s not up to speed now’s the only time in the near future I’ll get time to take holidays. It also buys me some time to finish the task I was given at work. It seems I annoyed the directors at work with that. I was told that I was arrogant and self-righteous, and to get my head out of my arse. Sometimes it seems that my opinions aren’t valid. No, actually… it seems that they aren’t even considered, which is strange because after said argument the itinery changed to the one I suggested.
Champions League Final was an awesome match, what I saw of it. I was hoping for a blues win. Both sides played well. Things got a little out of hand in extra time, but I think everybody was tired and bitchy. I’m too tired to go into details, but it was a good match. It’s a shame it went to penalties as I don’t believe it’s a good way to determine the winner.
Well, it’s late so I’m offski.
I found out from a group on Facebook that an old schoolfriend of mine, Sarah Richardson, has died. I haven’t spoken to her since we were at school, but it’s still a shock to find out. I don’t really know any details about it either, and I don’t really know anybody who would know. Hey well. I hear that she has a daughter as well. It’s really quite sad. My thoughts are with her family and friends.
Okay, I’m updating this post just to add that my mum confirmed my suspicion that she committed suicide last Saturday. My mum is apparently friends with Sarah’s mum, which I didn’t know. Absolutely aweful. I can’t imagine what her family are going through right now.
Does anybody else move their arms above and below their waistline to watch the blood run to your veins and back out again? Maybe it’s just me.
I’m getting slack again with the blogging. Hey well. A brief history in time (a book I’ve not read but keep meaning to, after I’ve read the book currently on my bedside cabinet – The Fabric of The Cosmos… going slightly off-topic) would involve me explaining the themed international housewarming I went to a week last Saturday. Clare’s just bought the house she was renting so she decided to throw one of her infamous themed parties. I had weeks of notice but ten minutes before leaving I still had no idea what to go as, so I went as Baghdad. As Tom said before I arrived, “wouldn’t it be hilarious if he turned up covered in bags and pictures of his Dad??” which just so happened to be what I did. It was a bit of a late affair, the latter of which I don’t recall. Anybody who has me on Facebook will see the pics.
No more gigs have been watched, unfortunately, and I’m staring to miss live music again. I need to pick up my guitar more often. The Mac’s still broken and I want it replacing, though that’s increasingly unlikely. I still need to order the warranty. I must sort that.
I’ve been playing a bit of GTA IV this week – recommend it to anybody – it’s a great storyline and very amusing! The map it huge and I bet I’ve only seen about a quarter of it. I also saw Iron Man last week – excellent movie! But then I like most of Robert Downey Jr’s stuff. Can’t wait for Tropic Thunder!
Today I ordered pizza and the delivery guy turned up and pointed at my t-shirt (it has an Edimax logo on it) and proceeded to converse with me. He was deaf, so it kind of reminded me of working with Bijan years ago. It was kind of odd to be honest. It’s not often you stand on your doorstep talking to random delivery drivers, but to converse with a deaf guy when you don’t know any (British) sign language… well, it’s tricky. I really should learn to sign. Maybe I’ll look into that. He was a sound guy anyway. Oh, talk about unintentional bad taste pun of the week.
